I recently have become a fan of the Discovery Channel’s reality show called “The Colony”. “The Colony” is a mock global catastrophe that wiped out civilization as we know it all based in Las Angles, California  “The Colony” puts 10 real people and their skills to the test in a real-life exploration of what it would be like to have to rebuild after a devastating global event.

“The Colony” gives numerous survival tips along with feed back from specialist from varying fields explaining what the contestants are going through.

Living in a warehouse setting with limited water, food and supplies, they have to learn how to adapt and survive with their current conditions . They also have to learn how to get along and survive as a group with what materials they find and use to create.

Survival TIP: make drinkable water by filtering it through layers of crushed charcoal & sand in a 55 gal barrel. Pour the water through the top, and let the gravity feed through the charcoal and sand and drain out the bottom of the holes in the barrel.
